Diary of a MAD Woman - 4

Princess could feel the tears cascading down her face. She couldn’t believe the contents of what she had found in Kelvin’s House. Yes, he deserved to be called by his name, his role as her father ended the day she came back from the United States where she had finished with her basic education. She had hoped coming into a house filled with love and warmth but she met the direct opposite when she stepped her feet in the house. She had been surprised that her mother didn’t follow Kelvin to pick her from the airport. When she had inquired Kelvin brushed the question carelessly by saying Mother was busy. She knew in her heart then that he wasn’t telling the truth, mother couldn’t be so busy that she wouldn’t come to the airport to pick me. In fact she would leave everything just to make sure she was there for me.

The journey back home was done in silence as she wondered why her mother wasn’t there for her. She thought about her siblings and the friends she left at home before travelling. She had hoped all would be well when she got home. The look of depression on her fathers face had scared her and she wished all would be well when she got home.

An awful smell greeted her when she stepped her feet in the house. What had happened all these years? Mother had been pristine and neat. The house was her pride as she does everything possible to make it habitable for the whole family.

Princess had crumbled when she had found her mother twisted on the floor staring absent-mindedly to the ceiling. She had found her in that position when she didn’t hear any exited welcome from her or anyone. What had went wrong, what actually happened to mum . Her joy had been shattered when she approached Kelvin to ask him what had happened to her mother. She was rewarded by screams and insults from him and assurances that he would do more if provoked. She could remember the moments of panic, the moments when her mother stared at her with tears rolling down her face, the everlasting silence from her, the acted scripts at home in a bid not to annoy Kelvin.

Oh, how she hated Kelvin for all the pains she had caused her mother.  Princess could no longer read her mothers diary, she would crumple if she continued. She laid it down on the table lost in thought for some while. She had an appointment to make, she hadn’t visited her mother for today. She had to be strong to do all this. She laid her head on the bed and sleep took her away.
